The kerfuffle around the salary debate can be traced to the big lie that university is for everyone. No one needs the wasted time and debt required to get a 4 year degree in an oversaturated field by a system that's been watered down by the mediocrity of its attendees to the point where the average college IQ tests about 2 points higher than that of the citizenry nationwide (universities used to average about 20 IQ points higher than thar just a few decades ago).

There is a vanity involved in the reluctance to accept a service job that pays a pretty good wage, but the attitude was put into play by the generations before that neglected to tell their kids that the most important thing is to be able to provide for one's family - at any price.

A huge amount of blame can be laid at the feet of the modern feminism movement, too.
